Sturbridge Marketplace at the Falls – Sturbridge Massachusetts

I don’t know how we keep ending up in Sturbridge but here we were again antiquing and boy did we find a big place! Multiple floors, all sorts of booths, and a truly mental variety of price ranges that went from nostalgic toys from the 90’s for a few bucks to a very beautiful vase behind glass that was over $5,000. Oh, and a massive purple and white geode for a cool 10K. Now that’s a rock for you.

But first we had to find the place. It was in an old mill building and although there were signs to tell us which floor it was on we still had to ask for directions from a young woman who told us we had to go all the way down the hallway on the floor it was on before we’d see the entrance. We passed a brewery, a DIY pottery painting place, an Amish furniture shop, and who knows what else before we got to where we were going in this building and when we did walk in it wasn’t a little shop like the rest, it was a sprawling Byzantine market that seemed to go on and on forever.

Seeing as we went before Halloween there was all sorts of vintage decorations and DIY art from various vendors. Some of it was damn cute. Nothing scary on this particular visit. The closest thing to a haunted doll I could find was a moldy-headed cabbage patch baby. He apparently spoiled at some point. Maybe someone left him in the patch too long. There was a lot there from my own childhood including a tiny plastic light/dollhouse thing missing the wee car that came with it at some point. And this is the first time I’d seen an action figure of a skeksis! I do wonder about the mental health of the child who’d want that one. (Confession I probably would have been that child if I knew what a skeksis was then. My mother never let me watch the Dark Crystal growing up. Something about being too dark for children.) That’s OK I guess, there was still a pile of McDonald’s trick or treating pumpkins I could wax nostalgic about.

Anywaaaay, it was fun! I liked this place. It was like going through someone’s basement but in the best way.
